KenTaiDo is a comprehensive, mixed martial art with three core components;

I've been practicing KenTaiDo for 7 years now. I couldn't be happier training in any other martial art. Master Ren is extremely knowledgeable and has considerable experience practicing both Chinese & Japanese martial arts. What I really enjoy about KenTaiDo is that it doesn't stick to one form. It's our philosophy that all martial arts are part of a whole.
Before joining Master Ren's class, I only had some basic knowledge of generic martial arts techniques. In this class, I have learned much more comprehensively how to use my body to its best advantage. Master Ren has a way of finding a person's strong points and building on those strengths with techniques to suit that individual best. More than that, I really like how the class incorporates mentality and knowledge with physical training. I now understand the reasons behind moving in particular ways, and it enables me to use a variety of techniques in different situations. I have never before taken a class that integrates all of these aspects in this way, and it is very rewarding.
KenTaiDo is an effective combination of all that I am interested in. I have taste tested other schools before whether it was a month or six months. I wanted to learn wrestling, striking, and weapons. I did not want to dedicate myself to martial arts that had one part of what I wanted to learn because I simply could not choose. However, this mixed martial art has a lot of fine technique and variety to make me want to commit to learning. Master Ren is skilled and trained in many styles and takes time to explain the concept behind each move which I think is crucial than just pounding bags. It is easy to get a six pack from any martial arts but harder to get accurate fine tuning with technique which Master Ren teaches very well for application.
I'm a visual arts instructor, K-5, and have been an athlete pretty much all my life. I run, surf and enjoy many other physical activities, and I'm gonna be fifty this year..ouch! When I first started with Master Ren I couldn't even make a proper fist.I also have a hip flexor injury from a bad fall a few years ago..now I feel myself getting stronger and stronger, physically and mentally. I started with the beginning classes because I had no martial arts experience at all.I was told that these classes were a combination of light weight training,self defense,stretching and striking. A well rounded fitness and stress reliever program.After dealing with kids all day I thought this would be very beneficial. A few months later I was invited to participate in the intermediate/advanced class, approximately two hours of martial arts focussing on technique and my favorite, weapons training. Master Ren's expertise and patience guides the class. I had no idea that I would become so hooked .What started out as something new and interesting to try has turned into a full blown challenging passion.
